We research and publish books to help and inspire citizens to protect their public lands. We offer electronic versions of all of our books at no charge to the public. You can read previews of our books here.

Position Papers

On occasion we find a particular public lands issue that has gone unaddressed, or a disturbing new method by which public lands are removed from the public domain, or a particular land trade that generates a lot of interest. When we do, we'll write up our analysis of the situation and put it here.

Research, outreach and advocacy to keep public lands public.

The Western Lands Project was created to monitor federal land exchanges and promote reform in related federal policies. Our mission has expanded to include scrutiny of efforts to privatize public lands.

While it is not our intent to oppose every single such action, neither will the Western Lands Project endorse any project that puts public lands in private hands.
